Your Safety Action Plan for All Emergencies
Last Updated: October 2, 2025
Immediate Action Required in Emergencies
In any life-threatening emergency, your first action should be to call the appropriate emergency services:
After calling emergency services, immediately notify hostel management so we can assist responders and coordinate with other residents.
1. General Emergency Response Protocol
Regardless of the type of emergency, follow these general steps to ensure your safety and the safety of others:
Assess the Situation
Determine the nature of the emergency (fire, medical, security threat, natural disaster) and whether it's safe to stay or evacuate.
Alert Authorities
Call the appropriate emergency number based on the situation (see contact information above).
Notify Management
Inform front desk staff or security personnel about the emergency, providing details about location and nature of the incident.
Follow Instructions
Comply with instructions from emergency responders and hostel staff. Evacuate if directed, using designated routes.
Important Reminders
- Keep your phone charged and emergency contacts saved
- Familiarize yourself with evacuation routes and assembly points
- Know the location of fire extinguishers and first aid kits on your floor
- Never use elevators during fire emergencies
- If you have mobility issues, inform management so we can create a personalized emergency plan for you
2. Fire Emergency Procedures
Fire Emergency - IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED
Activate Alarm
If you discover a fire, activate the nearest fire alarm pull station.
Evacuate Immediately
Leave the building using the nearest safe exit. Do not stop to collect personal belongings.
Close Doors
Close doors behind you to help contain the fire, but do not lock them.
Go to Assembly Point
Proceed to the designated assembly point (marked on evacuation maps) and wait for instructions.
What NOT to Do During a Fire:
- Do NOT use elevators
- Do NOT re-enter the building until cleared by authorities
- Do NOT ignore fire alarms
- Do NOT attempt to fight large fires without proper training
- Do NOT hide in closets or bathrooms
Evacuation Routes and Assembly Points
Evacuation maps are posted on every floor near stairwells and in common areas. Your designated assembly point is the open courtyard at the front of the building (clearly marked on maps).
Primary Exits: Main entrance, rear emergency exit, side fire escape
Secondary Exits: Additional stairwells on north and south sides of building
3. Medical Emergency Procedures
Medical Emergency
Assess the Situation
Determine the nature and severity of the medical emergency. Is the person conscious? Breathing?
Call for Help
Dial 1122 for medical emergency services. Provide clear information about location and nature of emergency.
Notify Management
Call hostel security (0304 8281588) so staff can assist and guide emergency responders to the location.
Provide Basic Aid
If trained, provide basic first aid until help arrives. Do not move seriously injured persons unless in immediate danger.
First Aid Kit Locations:
- Front desk (24/7 access)
- Security office
- Each floor near stairwell
- Kitchen area
Pre-existing Medical Conditions
If you have a pre-existing medical condition (asthma, diabetes, epilepsy, severe allergies, etc.), please inform hostel management and provide emergency contact information for a family member who should be notified in case of emergency.
Keep necessary medications accessible and inform your roommate or nearby residents about your condition and any emergency procedures they should follow.
4. Security Threat Procedures
Security Threat or Intruder
Ensure Personal Safety
Get to a safe location immediately. Lock yourself in your room if possible.
Call Security/Police
Dial hostel security (0304 8281588) and/or police (15). Provide description of intruder and location.
Silence Devices
Turn off lights, silence phones, and stay quiet until help arrives.
Wait for Instructions
Wait for security or police to clear the area before leaving your safe location.
Security Best Practices:
- Always lock your room when leaving, even for short periods
- Never prop open exterior doors
- Report suspicious persons or activities to security immediately
- Don't allow strangers to "tailgate" you through secured entrances
- Verify the identity of maintenance or delivery personnel before granting access
5. Natural Disaster Procedures
Earthquake
Drop, Cover, Hold On
Drop to your hands and knees, cover your head and neck, and hold on to sturdy furniture.
Stay Indoors
Stay inside until shaking stops. Most injuries occur when people try to move during shaking.
Evacuate After Shaking
After shaking stops, evacuate to open area away from buildings using stairs (not elevators).
Listen for Updates
Listen to official information and instructions from management and authorities.
Flood or Heavy Rain
Move to Higher Ground
If flooding occurs, move to upper floors immediately.
Avoid Flood Waters
Never walk or drive through flood waters. Just 6 inches can knock you down.
Turn Off Utilities
If instructed or if water enters your room, turn off electricity at the main switch if safe to do so.
Wait for Assistance
Stay in a safe location and wait for assistance from management or emergency services.
